About Lonnie

Lonnie Soloff is in his 23rd season with the Cleveland Guardians and his 13th leading Medical Services. He was elevated to Senior Vice President, Medical Services prior to the 2022 campaign. Originally took on an expanded role as Senior Director, Medical Services in 2014.

Lonnie’s position focuses on research and development pertaining to physical development, performance enhancement, sports science and injury prevention while assisting club executives in short-term and long-term injury risk assessments relative to strategic amateur and professional player personnel decisions. In this role, Lonnie oversees and collaborates with the organization’s Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Sport Psychology Team, Sports Scientists and Team Physicians, overseeing injury treatment, rehabilitation systems and physical development at both the Major League and Minor League levels.

Soloff, the club’s Head Athletic Trainer for ten seasons from 2004-13, joined the club after spending five years as Assistant Athletic Trainer and physical therapist for the Cincinnati Reds. Lonnie and his staff are widely respected around the professional sports industry and following the 2016 and 2007 campaigns, the Cleveland Athletic Training and Medical staffs were recognized as MLB’s best by a membership of their peers, PBATS and Baseball Prospectus, a leading baseball research and content organization. In addition to serving as American League athletic trainer for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game, Soloff was honored to represent his country working as an athletic trainer with Team USA during their Gold Medal run in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

While attending St. Louis University, Soloff graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, a master’s degree in physical therapy and attained his certification in athletic training. In 2013, Lonnie completed post-graduate coursework towards a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University in Boston. Most recently, Soloff is a graduate of Leadership Cleveland’s class of 2019. Lonnie continues to take an active role in teaching orthopedics and baseball sports medicine, which has enabled him to lecture and participate in research. The 51-year-old is a member of the NATA and APTA and began his career in baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1996 as part of the PBATS internship program.

Lonnie, a native of New Orleans, resides in Avon Lake, OH with his wife and three children.
