About Luke

Luke Novosel, 33, is entering his 1st season as Head Athletic Trainer with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He previously served as the Major League Assistant Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist for the Pirates during the 2025 season. Originally from Pittsburgh, Luke obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014 where he was a scholarship Division-I baseball athlete. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the Univ. of Pittsburgh in May 2018, completed a sports physical therapy residency at Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in August 2019, and his master’s degree in athletic training at Boston Univ. in May 2021. He became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2017 and a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy in 2020, and holds numerous specialty certifications such as Active Release Technique, Facial Manipulation, advanced spinal and extremity manipulation techniques, and dry needling. Prior to joining the Pirates organization, Luke spent 4 seasons with the New York Mets from 2021-2024, serving in a variety of roles primarily as a Physical Therapist based in Port St. Lucie, FL. Luke and his wife Maggie currently reside in Pittsburgh, PA.
